Ramsey Cureton had 16 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals on Friday evening as the John Paul II Catholic High School girls basketball team posted its fifth consecutive victory, 43-31 over visiting Parrott.
The Saints improved to 7-2 overall and 3-2 in the CPIC with the pivotal win, and the Patriots dropped to 10-3 and 1-2.
After totaling 6 points through three quarters, Cureton took control down the stretch, notching 10 of JPII’s final 11 points after it led 32-23 entering the fourth. She hit 8 of 12 free throws in the fourth quarter to go along with one field goal.
“Ramsey did a great job of holding the team together,” said coach Kendall Ham, whose squad will return to action Monday at home against Father Capodanno. “If we needed anything, from a steal, a rebound, or points, she was right on time with it.”
Cureton certainly wasn’t the only star of the game for JPII. Ari Atkinson had 11 points to go along with 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal. Nine of her points came before halftime as the Saints led 22-15 at the break.
Other key contributions were made by Chrissy Cox (9 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 assist), Ke’ziya Clemmons (2 points, 10 rebounds), Samiah Barnett (2 points, 1 steal, 4 rebounds), DeeDee Koesters (3 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals), and Simone Rogers (1 rebound).
“All in all, it was a total team effort, as it is every night,” Ham said.
