Although Rocky Mount Academy held a 24-21 lead at halftime, it was the Saints’ halftime adjustments that ended up being the story of the game. JPII outscored the Eagles 38-8 in the 2nd half to get the win and advance to host the state championship game for the 2nd year in a row.
The Saints 527 yards of total offense was led by junior Rion Roseborough who had 40 carries for 301 yards and 6 touchdowns. Roseborough also had 1 reception for 14 yards and 1 2-point conversion. Sophomore running back Justin Biggs added 21 carries for 180 yards and a touchdown in the 4th quarter that put the game out of reach for the Eagles.
The player of the game on defense was sophomore Keiveon Moore with 11 total tackles (1 for a loss) and 2 fumble recoveries. Seniors Will McMinn (9 total tackles and an interception) and Elijah Eger (6 total tackles and a sack) were major contributors on defense as well.
JPII (9-2, 7-0) will host Cary Christian (8-2, 4-2) on November 12 for the 2021 NCISAA 8-Man Football Div. 1 State Championship. The Knights visited Greenville on September 24 and the Saints won 18-6. Since that game, the Knights have won 5 straight.
