Back in the spring, we announced the addition of Kylie Gilroy to the JPII math department; Gilroy has also agreed to lead the Saints softball team. Gilroy started playing softball when she was six years old and played travel ball all along the east coast for 11 years. She was a four-year varsity starter at West Liberty-Salem High School in Ohio and received the scholar-athlete award all four years. Her senior year she was team captain, named first-team all-conference, and made the district all-star team.
Coaching is something Gilroy knew as a player that she would like to do. While she chose not to play in college, her NCAA recruiting profile from high school included the following: “After my playing days I am looking to become a softball coach at some level so I can stay in the game.” She helped coach community recreational teams back in Ohio but was never able to commit as a full-time coach because her year-round playing schedule did not allow it. As the new coach for Saints softball, she hopes to provide an environment where players can build fundamental skills, such as teamwork and communication skills, that will help them grow and succeed both on and off the field.
